The Value, Virtue and Victory of Love: Part I, Paying the Cost

PASTOR WIL: (Singing.)  Hallelujah.  Hallelujah.  Hallelujah.  Hallelujah.  Hallelujah.  Hallelujah. (Speaking.)  Come on, let’s just worship God right there.  He deserves all of our praise.  I, I don’t need the rocks to cry out for me.  I don’t need anybody else to cry out for me.  I will worship the Lord with my whole heart, with all my might, with all my mind, with all my soul.  Lift those hands up high and just worship Him.  Just worship Him right there.  Just enter right into His presence.  Enter into His gates with thanksgiving.  His courts with praise.  Bless His holy name.  Bless His holy name.  Bless His holy name.  (Singing.)  Bless His holy name.

(Speaking.)  Father, we thank you.  Father, we glorify you.  Lord, we magnify you.  As we come into this hour, Lord, we ask you right now, Lord, to touch, to heal, to deliver, to set free.  God, we ask you right now, Lord, if you will bless these words that are about to be imparted into the lives of your people.  Lord, let no word hit the ground, but let it, Lord, accomplish the purpose in which it is now being sent.  Now, Lord, we ask you, we thank you, we praise you, in Jesus’ name.  Come on, clap those hands and bless the name of Jesus.  (Singing.)  Hallelujah.  Hallelujah.  Hallelujah.  Hallelujah.  (Speaking.)  Come on, clap those hands, everybody.  Make a joyful noise unto the Lord.  Make a joyful noise unto the Lord.  (Singing.)  Make a joyful noise, make a joyful noise.  Hallelujah.  Hallelujah.  Hallelujah.  Hallelujah.  Hallelujah.  Hallelujah.  (Speaking.)   Oh, no, no, no, no, no, no.  Yes, Lord.  Yes, Lord.  Yes, Lord.  Yes, Lord.  Yes, Lord.   Saturate this atmosphere right now, saturate this atmosphere right now.  Lord, saturate this atmosphere right now.  Bless the name of Jesus.  Bless the name of Jesus.  Hallelujah.

How many people are glad to be in the presence of the Lord right now?  Hallelujah, as we enter into this celebration season of our Lord and savior Jesus Christ, what greater place could we be than in the house of God?

Look at your neighbor on both sides of you and just give God a praise for them, coming to worship with you today.  Come on, just praise God for your neighbor.  Just praise God for your neighbor.  ‘Cause I believe Jesus meant it when he said, “Where two or three are gathered in His name, He will be there in the midst of them.”  That means God is here right now.  God is here right now.  Whatever you need is in the atmosphere right now.  Whatever you want is in the atmosphere.  Hey!  Hallelujah.

DR. GRACE: And we bless the Lord on today, we honor the presence of the most high God.  I believe that this is one of those services where when you leave here, you’re gonna say, “When I think of the goodness of Jesus and all that he’s done for me, my soul cries out, Hallelujah!”  (Applause.) Come on, let’s give God our praise, amen.  And I believe that God, amen, inhabits the praises of His people, and I believe that you’re here on a blessed Sunday.  I believe that God is already in our midst, and I believe that you will not leave here the same way you came, in Jesus’ name.  So look at your neighbor this morning and say, “Neighbor, you’re in for a time, amen.”  God has a blessing with your name on it, amen.  (Applause.) If you believe in God for something, while you’re waiting on Him, He’s waiting on you.  Let’s go ahead and give God a glorious praise.  (Applause.)  Hallelujah, glory be to God.  We thank the Lord.

And it’s an honor for me to stand here next to this preaching machine, this awesome man of God.  Let’s give our Lord a hand for our pastor, Pastor Wil Nichols, amen.  (Applause.)  And you pray much for me, amen, because I’m a teacher and I’m just gonna follow right along with him.  I’m gonna leave all the preaching to him.

PASTOR WIL: Praise God.  You may be seated in the presence of the Lord.   We thank God for each of you on today.  I look forward to an opportunity to minister with my wife.  She’s a powerful woman of God.  (Applause.)  Yes she is.  And so we tag team like this.  I am really excited and certainly appreciate you.

We are closing out, and actually, we’re shifting, we’re moving from— we’ve been talking about the Holy Ghost, the Holy Spirit, for the last few months.  We started out with a series on regeneration, where Jesus said to Nicodemus, “Except a man be born again.”  Except a man be born again, working with the power of the Holy Ghost.  And that’s one of the challenges with many Christians, is they can’t do what Christ requires of them because they don’t have the tools necessary to do it.  It takes the Holy Ghost to turn the other cheek.  (Laughter.)

DR. GRACE: It does.

PASTOR WIL: It takes the Holy Ghost to love unlovable people.  Takes the Holy Ghost.  Oh, oh, yeah.  Oh, yeah.  Oh, yeah.  I, I, I know y’all looking for the perfect situation, but there is no perfect situation.  There is only the power of the Holy Ghost.  And we’re gonna need the Holy Ghost.  And so I gave you several messages on being regenerated by the power of God, so you can do that.  Then we talked about activating that power, and we gave you another series called “The Power of…”  And that was a powerful teaching on fasting, and praying, and praise, and faith, and I want you all to go by our bookstore today and get those series.

But today, Dr. Grace and I want to stay in that power series, but we wanna look at an element of the power called “the fruit of the Spirit”: specifically, love.  Everybody say, “Love.”  Say it again: “Love.”  So, we’re gonna go into that.  I want you to turn, and we won’t be before you long, we’re gonna do this for the next couple of weeks or so, and, but before we get into that, let me just bring a few things to your attention while I’m standing here with my lovely wife, and I just thank God for her.  Give God another great big hand for your First Lady.  (Applause.)  Thank you, baby.

On— there’s a few things that I want to make you aware of.  We have an awesome opportunity to do something special.  This happens about every four or five years, and that is, we get to celebrate the greatest, the greatest holiday on the Lord’s day.  Hallelujah.  Let me say that one more again.  We get to celebrate the greatest holiday on the Lord’s day.  So just in case, y’know, the world forgot why we have Christmas, we get to have Christmas on Christmas.  Y’all ain’t workin’ with me.  So, we are excited about our Christmas Day celebration service, and I wanna do something a little unique, and that is, on that day, we’re still gonna meet at 10, but I would like to have an abbreviated service that day of, of just, power-packed celebration for about 90 strong minutes, and God has given us a special word to share with you on that day.  I want you to prepare your hearts and minds to meet us here on Christmas Day for a special Christmas Day celebration on December the 25th at 10:00.

I also want to make mention, First Lady—

(Referring to microphone noise.)  I don’t know if that’s me or First Lady, but y’all help us out there.

On last night…  (Applause.)  Mm-mm-mm.  I was just blown away.

(Adjusting microphone.)  I think that’s me.  It is me, ‘cause I’m grabbing my…  Y’all want me to use my handheld?

I was trying to look sophisticated today.  (Laughter.)  I was trying to look professional.  Me and my wife, we wanted to record this.  Maybe y’all can look at the back of my thing, see if it’s maybe something ain’t plugged in right.  But if not, I’ll grab my handheld.

But, on last night — oh, my God.  We had a vision three years ago about…

It’s plugged in all the way?  And it’s still doing it?  I’ll try not to move too much.  Somebody said, “Yeah, right.”  (Laughter.)

But, on last night — it was the culmination of a vision I had about three years ago concerning our performing arts, and it all came together.

Where is Minister — I don’t know why I said “Minister” — where, where is Brother Ron?  Stand up, Ron.  (Applause.)  I asked him to — and he didn’t give me any pushback — I said, “I need you to take over and run with this and to work with some people to put on our ‘Arts & Mime’ symposium and showcase,” and last night was just…  I’m just sayin’, tears in my eyes, just beautiful from start to finish, from the showcase, to the spoken word, to the gospel rap, to the dancers, to the mimers, to the acting, to the singing…  I was overjoyed.  I was overjoyed on last night.  If you missed it, God bless you, you missed a treat.  It was sold out.  (Applause.)  Packed.  And God is doing some great and awesome things, so, thank you, Ron.  We’ve got some more things comin’ up next year, and, so we’re excited about what God is doing, because everybody don’t preach — but everybody can minister, everybody can serve and be a blessing to God’s people, so we were profoundly blessed on last night.  So, we’re looking forward to moving forward with that.  And thank you all for, for coming out.

(Aside.)  If y’all would bring me my tour kit…

I want you to open up your Bibles to 1 Corinthians, the thirteenth chapter.  1 Corinthians 13.  Dr. Grace is going to be our reader for today, and we’re going to talk about love — the power of love.

So, we’re staying with the Holy Ghost.  We went to (receives kit) how to be regenerated; then we went into, the, using its power; and today, we wanna talk about the production, the fruit, of its power.
