The Power of Love’s Virtue

Don’t Let the Devil Cause you to Sell Your Birthright

When you are weak, the enemy will magnify your situation. The enemy knows that the only way he can touch you is through your mind so he will play mind games to get you make permanent decisions just to get a temporary fix.

Genesis 25:29-34

In the text we see how Esau failed to protect his birthright. He let his temporary hunger pains entice him to give up his birthright, which would have provided eternal satisfaction.

How much greater would our blessing be if we didn’t give into the tricks of the enemy to satisfy our flesh?

We’d be able to laugh in the devils face because his plan didn’t work and we’d be able to enjoy the birthright that the father has for us.

The Devil Will Use Three Tactics to Get You to Sell Your Birthright. He will use:

1.) People to cause you to sell your birthright
2.) Your flesh/weariness to cause you to sell your birthright
3.) The devil to cause your to sell your birthright

But the Lord gave us something greater to overcome the tactics of the enemy. He gave us the fruit of the Holy Spirit, which produces a birthright of brotherly virtue. This includes patience/long-suffering, gentleness/kindness, and goodness or contentment.

Don’t Let People Cause You to Sell Your Birthright

The brotherly virtue of love is that it “suffers long”: it is patient, kind, and good. But the very people you are called to love can cause you to sell your virtue and cause you to become bitter, spiteful, and hateful. When you access the love of God he will give you the power to shake off every temporary situation and person that stands in front of you. People and things are temporary but God is eternal in your life.

Hebrews 13:5 (AV)5 … for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.

Don’t Let Your Flesh Cause You to Sell Your Birthright

When a person is weak or faint, their judgment and choices are compromised. In the lesson text, because Esau was faint, his judgment was impaired to the point that he made poor choices.

Genesis 25: 32 And Esau said, Behold, I am at the point to die: and what profit shall this birthright do to me?

The Holy Spirit produces faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control, but when you are weak, your impaired judgment will cause you to devalue your virtue, and you will sell it.

The enemy knows all of your weakness and will use those things to tempt you. Consider the areas that cause you to stumble most. Then devise a plan on how you will overcome them when temptation comes in. Ask the Lord to give you more of self-control so that you will not make a permanent decision to satisfy your flesh.

It may not look like it right now or feel like it but do not sell your self-virtue, it is worth more than you know.

Don’t Let the Devil Cause You to Sell Your Birthright of Godly Virtue (Love, Joy, and Peace)

The Fruit of the Holy Spirit produces a birthright of godly virtue, which includes love, joy, and Peace. Your birthright is love but the enemy wants you to hate. Joy is yours but the wants you to be depressed. Peace is yours but the devil wants you to see trouble so that you are afraid to walk into the purpose that God has for you.

People may hate you without a cause but love conquerors a multitude of evil. Life may disappoint you over and over again but the joy of the Lord is your strength. You may be troubled on every side but the Peace of God that surpasses all understanding will keep your hearts and minds.

I challenge you today to endure your temporary situation and not sell your birthright for a temporary fix. But wait on the Lord because

“after you have suffered awhile the God of all grace, who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you.” 1 Peter 5:10
